System Engineer

Oak Leaf Solutions, LLC is a small technology services firm based in Leesburg, VA. We provide systems engineering, IT infrastructure support, and professional services to a range of clients. As a compact team, we offer opportunities to take broad ownership of technical solutions and to work closely with clients and colleagues on end-to-end system design, deployment, and operations.

• Design, deploy, configure, and maintain server and network infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Administer Linux and Windows server platforms, including patching, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
• Implement and manage virtualization and container platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Deploy and operate cloud services and resources in AWS, Azure, or similar public cloud platforms.
• Develop and maintain automation and infrastructure‑as‑code (IaC) using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or similar.
• Monitor systems, respond to incidents, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and availability.
• Implement backup, recovery, and business continuity processes and verify their effectiveness.
• Apply security best practices and assist with system hardening, access controls, and vulnerability remediation.
• Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, runbooks, and system diagrams.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and change management processes.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience, or commensurate professional experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in systems engineering, systems administration, or a closely related role.
• Strong Linux administration skills; experience with Windows Server administration is required.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, VLANs).
• Experience with virtualization technologies and managing virtualized infrastructure.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., Python, Bash, Power Shell) for automation and tooling.
• Experience with configuration management or IaC tools (Ansible, Terraform, Cloud Formation, or similar).
• Familiarity with monitoring and logging solutions and incident response practices.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and written/verbal communication skills.

• Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cloud‑native services.
• Certifications such as RHCE, AWS Certified Sys Ops/Associate or Solutions Architect, CompTIA Linux+/Network+, or equivalent.
• Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, Git Lab CI, Git Hub Actions) and integrating infrastructure with deployment pipelines.
• Knowledge of security frameworks and compliance standards relevant to client environments.
