Job DescriptionThe Cognos Administrator will provide enterprise-level administration, technical support, and reporting solutions within a large Department of Defense (DoD) environment. This role serves as the primary technical expert for DoD users across the Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Army, managing Cognos v12, developing and maintaining data models, optimizing reporting performance, and ensuring secure and reliable system operations. The position includes collaborating with end users to define reporting requirements, develop custom reports, maintain system integrity, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to modernization efforts—such as transitioning reporting capabilities into Tableau.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical skills, DoD experience, and the ability to support mission-critical reporting functions.
- Serve as the primary technical support lead for Cognos environments supporting DoD activities.
- Administer and maintain Cognos v12, including Report Studio, Query Studio, Framework Manager, and Transformer.
- Develop, publish, and optimize reports and cubes, ensuring efficient data processing for all users (Navy, Army, USMC, Air Force).
- Analyze end-user requirements and create custom reports and dashboards based on operational needs.
- Build and maintain Framework Manager models, including joining DB2 tables and organizing folders and packages for report development.
- Support design, configuration, and implementation of Cognos Web Server environments.
- Perform system administration tasks including server maintenance, backups, and environment cleanup.
- Manage Cognos security configurations, user roles, and access permissions.
- Schedule and manage cube refreshes and report updates for enterprise users.
- Troubleshoot Cognos software issues, document system bugs, and coordinate resolutions.
- Provide post-implementation support and technical assistance to DoD end-users.
- Create training materials and deliver Cognos training classes for Report Studio, Query Studio, and cube-based report creation.
- Maintain and update Azure Dev Ops tasks, repositories, and product backlog items.
- Collaborate with modernization teams to integrate and transition reporting solutions into Tableau.
- Review and analyze existing Cognos reports to replicate, modernize, or convert them into Tableau.
- Proficiency in Cognos Administration, preferably Cognos v12.
- Strong experience with Report Studio, Query Studio, Framework Manager, and Transformer.
- Hands‑on experience modeling and joining DB2 tables within Framework Manager.
- Experience working in DoD environments or similarly structured enterprise systems.
- Server administration skills, including maintenance, backups, and performance tuning.
- Ability to troubleshoot Cognos software issues and resolve bugs.
- Experience optimizing reports and cube performance to reduce processing time.
- Proficiency with Azure Dev Ops for managing tasks and backlogs.
- Strong technical documentation and user‑training capabilities.
- Experience supporting reporting environments within DoD organizations.
- Familiarity with Power Play Web and advanced Transformer modeling.
- Experience with Tableau, including converting Cognos reports into Tableau dashboards.
- Understanding of Cognos web server configuration and deployment.
- Knowledge of Azure environments and Dev Ops integration workflows.
- Experience collaborating with diverse user groups across multiple DoD branches.
