Lead Systems Engineer; Remote

Overview

Lead Systems Engineer (Remote) at Care First Blue Cross Blue Shield. This position is responsible for configuring and maintaining Middleware environments, primarily Web Sphere Application Server and Tomcat, with responsibilities including installation, system administration, tuning, disaster recovery, monitoring, audit, problem resolution, and license management. The engineer will manage a computing environment encompassing multiple software and hardware solutions in a scalable, highly available infrastructure across Azure and AWS.

• Design, build, implement, migrate, and maintain WAS and Tomcat environments from on premise to Azure.
• Configure and optimize middleware environments; support deployment patterns, sizing, and high availability.
• Cross-platform troubleshooting between middleware platforms; patch and upgrade middleware systems and connected components.
• Establish and enforce best practices for deployment and monitoring; implement monitoring and alerting in new and existing environments.
• Integrate with Dev Ops tools (including Azure Dev Ops) to establish environment lifecycle patterns.
• Develop and support Infrastructure as Code efforts to recreate or upgrade environments on demand.
• Provide cross-training to team members on new technologies and designs; manage 24x7 on-call support to cover off-hours.
• Familiarity with Dynatrace and Splunk; design supporting tools for deployments, monitoring, reporting, and other features as needed.
• Lead upgrading and migration efforts; coordinate across multiple teams to meet timelines and milestones.

• Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science, or in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience.
• Experience:
  
  8 years proven success overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems and applications.

• Middleware:
  Web Sphere Application Server and Liberty, TIBCO Business Works and Business Connect, Apache, IBM MQ, Active MQ, Tomcat.
• Facets configurations and troubleshooting (pricing and broadcasting).
• Cloud and Kubernetes:
  Kubernetes, AKS, TKGI, Azure, AWS;
  Nginx, Istio, and related components.
• Dev Ops:
  Azure Dev Ops, Jira, Jira Align, Subversion, GIT, Ansible, Jenkins, VS Code, Bitbucket.
• Programming:
  Python, Java, YAML, JSON.
