The Technical Writer's job is to write, edit, and keep up-to-date technical documents that are clear, accurate, and focused on the needs of users, both inside and outside the company. This job works from home with subject matter experts, engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to turn complicated technical information into well-organized, easy-to-read documents. The Technical Writer makes sure that all materials are clear, accurate, consistent, and follow the rules of the organization.
MainDuties
- Write, edit, and keep up-to-date technical documents like user guides, manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), technical specifications, and online help content.
- Work with subject matter experts to get and check technical information.
- Make clear, short, and easy-to-understand documentation out of complicated technical ideas.
- Make sure that all documentation follows the company's style guides, branding, and quality standards.
- Keep track of document versions, updates, and publication dates.
- Check and change the content for grammar, spelling, formatting, and accuracy.
- Keep up with content management systems and documentation repositories.
- Help with audits, regulatory requirements, and compliance paperwork as needed.
- To make documentation more useful, do content reviews and usability tests.
- Take part in ongoing efforts to make documentation processes and tools better.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as technical writing, English, communications, computer science, or something similar.
- At least three to five years of experience writing technical documents or developing documentation.
- Able to write technical content that is clear, organized, and correct.
- Good at editing, proofreading, and paying attention to details.
- Experience working with experts in the field and teams from different departments.
- Ability to use documentation tools and platforms like Microsoft Office, Confluence, Mad Cap Flare, Adobe, or something similar.
- Ability to handle several documentation projects while working from home.
- Good at both speaking and writing.
- Experience writing documentation for software, APIs, IT systems, or engineering products.
- Knowledge of Agile or software development lifecycle (SDLC) environments.
- Knowledge of version control tools and content management systems (CMS).
- Experience in industries with rules, like healthcare, finance, or government.
- A collection of examples of technical writing.
Salary Range: $70,000 to $105,000 per year, depending on experience, technical domain knowledge, and where you live.
