The Civics Innovation Lab at the Bill of Rights Institute (BRI) is seeking a versatile UX/UI Designer with expertise in systems engineering and universal design (UXUD) to help redefine the future of civic education. In this role, you’ll blend creativity with technical acumen, building accessible and intuitive digital experiences that inspire curiosity, foster understanding, and make learning civic principles engaging for all students, regardless of their ability or background.
This position follows a hybrid work mode – local to Washington D.C. area strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications- 5–7 years of experience in product design, UX, or systems‑focused technology roles (education technology experience preferred).
- Solid expertise in universal design (UX/UD), accessibility standards, and user‑centered design practices.
- Proficiency in front‑end design, user research, and standard design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva).
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical vendors, educators, and cross‑functional teams.
- Excellent communication skills; no specific language or travel requirements.
- Champion Universal Design (UX/UD):
Ensure all digital learning tools are accessible, inclusive, and intuitive for learners and educators of all abilities. - Lead User‑Centered Research:
Conduct user testing, develop personas and workflows, and translate insights into actionable design improvements. - Integrate Technology Systems:
Evaluate and collaborate with vendors, ensuring seamless front‑end and back‑end alignment across platforms and devices. - Collaborate Across Disciplines:
Partner with educators, civic experts, and designers to create products that are pedagogically sound and engaging. - Drive Continuous Improvement:
Use data, feedback, and systems‑level thinking to refine user experience and enhance learning outcomes.
