Position: Senior Data Governance Analyst - U.S. Based Remote Opportunity

Senior Data Governance Analyst – U.S. Remote

Common App is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to access, equity, and integrity in the college admissions process. Each year we support more than 1 million students, one-third of whom are first‑generation, as they apply to over 1,100 diverse member colleges and universities using the Common App free online application.

Responsibilities

The Senior Data Governance Analyst is a key contributor within the Data Analytics & Research Division.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead implementation of the Enterprise Information Management program.
  • Convene a regular Data Governance Working Group with business and technology stakeholders to define and enforce data governance standards.
  • Establish information management policies, processes, and controls across Common App data domains in collaboration with the Vice President, Legal, and data domain leaders.
  • Identify data quality initiatives and drive a culture of data accountability across the organization.
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • U.S. residency.
  • Willing to travel twice annually to the Common App Retreat.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Data Science, Statistics, or related field.
  • 5‑8 years of experience in data governance, data management, and analytics.
  • Experience implementing data governance programs, including standards, policies, and data stewardship practices.
  • Strong commitment to advancing the organization’s mission by applying data governance practices that support access and equity in college admissions.
  • Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and foster collaboration across business and technology stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills translating complex governance concepts into accessible guidance.
  • Mentor and guide team members in governance best practices.
  • Advanced proficiency in data quality, profiling, and validation techniques.
  • High proficiency with data governance tools, data catalog platforms, and metadata management (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica).
  • Full fluency in SQL and familiarity with cloud data platforms, especially Databricks.
  • Advanced knowledge of master data management, data lineage, and regulatory compliance frameworks (GDPR, CCPA).

Preferred:

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in Information Management, Data Science, Statistics, or related field.
  • Regulatory or policy compliance experience related to data management.
  • Experience in higher education data governance, data management, and analytics.
  • Data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI) for governance reporting.
  • Higher education data definitions and architecture knowledge.
  • Passion for higher education.
Pay Range
  • $115,000 – $120,000
