An Epic Client Systems Administrator (ECSA) plays a crucial role in supporting the infrastructure and backend systems that allow Epic applications to function efficiently in a healthcare setting. Typical responsibilities include:
System Installation, Configuration, and Maintenance:
- Install, configure, and maintain Epic servers and related infrastructure (Hyperspace, Interconnect, web servers).
- Ensure proper configuration of system components like Chronicles, Cache/IRIS, and application middleware.
- Apply patches, updates, and hotfixes as needed.
Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
- Monitor server and application performance (CPU, memory, disk I/O, etc.).
- Tune system settings to optimize performance and reduce downtime.
- Troubleshoot issues related to system slowness or failures.
Epic Environment Management:
- Manage non‑production and production environments (such as PRD, POC, TST, DEV, and TRN).
- Coordinate environment refreshes, migrations, and system cloning.
- Ensure proper environment isolation and naming conventions.
Security and Compliance:
- Implement and maintain Epic system security best practices (including user authentication, firewall rules, certificates).
- Ensure systems comply with healthcare regulations like HIPAA.
- Monitor and manage audit logs, encryption, and access controls.
Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with Epic application teams, infrastructure teams (network, storage, virtualization), and third‑party vendors.
- Provide operations support for Epic‑related issues.
- Participate in on‑call rotations and provide after‑hours support when needed.
