Description

Ping Wind is seeking a Database Engineer to join our team supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. This is a fully remote position. Responsibilities span the entire software development lifecycle, focusing on automation, efficiency, and reliability.

• Design scalable, secure, and highly available cloud database solutions. Choose appropriate database types (relational, No
  
  SQL, etc.) based on application needs. Develop data models and schema designs.
• Provision and configure cloud database instances (e.g., Amazon RDS, Azure SQL, Oracle Autonomous etc.). Migrate on-premises databases to the cloud, ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime. Plan and execute database upgrades.
• Monitor database performance using cloud-native and third-party tools. Identify and resolve bottlenecks (e.g., slow queries, resource constraints). Implement indexing, partitioning, and caching strategies.
• Implement access controls, encryption, and auditing. Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HL7, etc.). Regularly review and update security policies.
• Set up automated backup and disaster recovery solutions. Test and document recovery procedures. Configure replication, failover, and clustering for high availability.
• Automate database provisioning and configuration using tools like Terraform or Cloud Formation. Develop scripts for routine maintenance and monitoring.
• Work with developers, Dev Ops, and IT teams to support application requirements. Troubleshoot database-related issues and provide technical support. Document database environments and procedures.
• Monitor and optimize database resource usage to control cloud costs. Recommend right-sizing and cost-saving measures.

• Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering or technical discipline
• 5 years relevant experience.
