Lead FHIR Software Engineer

Location:

1331 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50309 – Hybrid (work from home and office, commutable distance required). 40 hours per week.

Provide overall coordination and oversight of technical approach, deliverables, and schedule for medium to high complexity initiatives which are cross‑functional. Engage with Delivery Teams to prioritize features, review the Dev Ops backlog, identify risks, and mitigate barriers. Serve as subject‑matter expert on innovative business solutions, including serverless and API design, and mentor team members. Lead system development and engineering for highly complex programs, including coding, testing, and debugging of workflows using emerging technology.

Coordinate cross‑functional end‑to‑end solution design sessions, ensure Wellmark’s SDLC standards are followed, and conduct code reviews with standard adherence. Contribute to adoption of best practices such as automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and enterprise standards. Manage a diverse development resourcing model across staff, global onshore/offshore resources, and crowd sourcing. Provide training, coaching, and guidance, and maintain industry‑best practices knowledge.

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field and 120 months (10 years) of experience in a related IT position.

Required experience:

• 96 months implementing, troubleshooting, administering, and supporting complex solutions using Type Script, REST API Services, AWS S3, Lambda, SNS, SQS, Glue, API Gateway, Cloud Watch, Dynamo
  
  DB, OAuth, and AWS CDK.
• 60 months in the insurance or financial services domain.
• 48 months designing and implementing serverless applications using AWS services.
• Experience building API solutions involving data modeling, architecture, source‑to‑target mapping, and deployment.
• Experience developing unit tests and refactoring code for performance.
• Experience in Agile and Waterfall software development lifecycle.
