Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to oversee payroll operations within a multi-entity organization. This role will be responsible for ensuring payroll is processed accurately, meeting regulatory requirements, and supporting internal stakeholders across the business.
The Senior Payroll Specialist will also provide guidance to a payroll administrator and work closely with Finance and HR to ensure payroll information is accurate, compliant, and delivered within required timelines.
This position is well suited for a payroll professional who enjoys ownership of payroll processes, mentoring team members, and improving operational workflows.

The OpportunityIn this role, you will take the lead on payroll operations for a diverse workforce while supporting broader payroll compliance and reporting requirements. You will act as a key resource for payroll-related questions, support internal audits, and help maintain accurate payroll records and procedures.
You will also collaborate with internal teams to ensure payroll data aligns with accounting and HR processes.
Key Areas of Responsibility:- Lead payroll processing
- Review payroll prepared by support staff and ensure accuracy before final processing
- Address payroll discrepancies and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Manage off-cycle payroll adjustments, final payments, and special payroll runs when required
- Oversee payroll reconciliations and ensure deductions and contributions are processed correctly
- Support regulatory reporting and ensure compliance with payroll legislation
- Assist with year-end payroll activities and required tax reporting
- Provide payroll data and reporting support to accounting and finance teams
- Maintain payroll documentation and internal procedures
- Act as a point of escalation for complex payroll inquiries
- Identify opportunities to enhance payroll processes and systems
- Provide guidance and mentorship to payroll team members
- 5+ years of experience managing full-cycle payroll
- Experience working in environments with multiple business entities or divisions
- Strong understanding of payroll compliance and regulatory requirements
- Experience supporting payroll for both hourly and salaried employees
- Exposure to unionized payroll environments considered an asset
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently while coordinating with cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Professional communication skills and ability to handle confidential information
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
Experience:
- Experience working with payroll and HRIS systems
- Strong proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office
- Ability to work with payroll reporting and reconciliation data
