Position: Payroll Specialist (Part-Time)

Join Our Team as a Payroll Specialist

MAVENTRI is seeking an experienced and dependable professional to support our clients’ payroll and human resources operations. This role focuses on payroll processing and compliance, while also providing HR support to small and growing businesses. The ideal candidate thrives in a multi‑client environment, is highly organized, dependable, and confident navigating multiple payroll systems and deadlines.

We provide fractional payroll and human resources to small and growing businesses, so your daily work will involve working with multiple clients in a supportive and consultative role. You will prepare and process a dozen or so small business payrolls, on different pay schedules and varying payroll platforms.

This role will primarily provide payroll support, but may also learn and assist with HR support as we take a team approach to our fractional, project, and consulting services for our small business clients.

Part‑time regular position
: 15‑20 hours per week on average, with some weeks having more hours due to payroll deadlines. Future growth opportunities may exist as the company expands.

Preferred locations:
Central Florida or Northern Virginia areas.

Reliable internet is required.

Must have daytime availability, and ability to work occasionally until 7:00 pm EST for payroll deadlines and sometimes holidays for preparation timelines.

Remote work, with the possibility for in‑person meetings for team connection or company networking.

Schedule Requirements
  • Monday through Friday, during business hours 8–5 EST, with occasional weekend and/or holiday requirements depending on payroll deadlines.
  • Average workload of 3 hours per day, but will vary based on the number of payrolls to prepare.
  • Must be able to work and check in every day at different times to be available for urgent or time‑sensitive payroll issues as well as payroll preparation follow‑ups.
  • Hours worked each day will vary. Flexibility for some payroll prep work to be completed outside business hours, if desired.
Required Experience
  • 5+ years of experience processing payrolls
    • Gusto and Paylocity, required.
    • Quick Books, Patriot, ADP, and others are a plus.
  • Experience with both small and medium sized business payrolls.
  • Experience with payroll platform implementations and migrations.
  • Experience drafting payroll‑related documentation (process, procedure, etc.) and training material.
  • Experience opening, closing, and resolving issues with state payroll tax accounts.
Strongly Preferred
  • FPC or CPP (current or past).
  • Experience in a consultant-type role with multiple clients.
  • Experience with Government Contractor payroll and compliance.
  • Located in Florida or Virginia.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to switch between clients and tasks to stay on top of multiple payroll schedules, processes, and platforms.
  • Extremely detail oriented, for both process and payroll numbers.
  • Ability to learn quickly new technology (payroll platforms, related HR and Benefit systems).
  • Skilled in building workflows, both in processes and platforms.
  • Skilled in customer service and communication.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting system issues.
  • Extremely reliable, dependable, and resourceful.
  • A deep knowledge of Payroll practices, as well as Federal payroll rules and regulations.
  • A general knowledge of employment rules and regulations.
  • Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality at all times.
