Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: HRIS Analyst 1

Do you enjoy solving multi-step puzzles? Have you been the “go to” to support technical or complex processes where you have worked? Are you the type of person that notices when forms ask for the same information over and over again, thinking there must be a better way? Do you enjoy working in a supportive team environment with opportunities to learn, teach, and grow your career?

If you answered yes to these questions this position could be a great fit. The University of Alaska Human Resources department is seeking an HRIS Analyst 1 (Grade 79) to join our Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and Data Analytics team.

The HRIS Analyst is part of a team of analytical and driven professionals who provide technical expertise to support HR operations across the university system. We are a collaborative and supportive team that values family, flexibility, and professional growth. This position will collaborate across the HR department and with the Information Technology department to design, implement, and maintain efficient, compliant, and user focused HRIS solutions that enhance data integrity, streamline processes, and support strategic organizational goals.

Examples of problems you could help solve:

  • The Payroll team reports that new employees are being hired in a recruiting system, but their information is not flowing correctly into the payroll system. You would work the team and IT to fix the data transfer so new hires are paid.

  • The HR Accounting team notices that some employees are earning the wrong amount of vacation leave after a recent system update. You would meet with HR Accounting to understand the issue and which employees are affected, then review how vacation accrual is configured in the system and propose the necessary adjustments. Once defined, you would help test and validate the solution before it is deployed, ensuring employees accrue the correct vacation leave going forward.

To thrive in this role, you will bring curiosity, analytical thinking, and a customer focused mindset to solving HRIS and process challenges. You will translate between technical and functional teams, develop user stories and acceptance criteria, support systemwide testing and implementation efforts, and help ensure compliance with HR policies, collective bargaining agreements, and federal/state regulations. You will support technically complex projects, assist with testing and implementations, conduct research, build foundational HRIS knowledge, and help troubleshoot day to day issues.
