Are you a proactive and enthusiastic HR & Learning and Development professional with the experience and skills to hit the ground running?

Do you pride yourself on providing an efficient customer-focused HR service as well as contributing to a positive employee experience?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Human Resource and Learning and Development Assistant who already has hands-on experience in both specialisms to provide maternity cover for our busy HR team.

About Us

South of Scotland Enterprise (also known as SOSE) is the dedicated Economic and Community Development Agency for the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway. Established by the Scottish Government, SOSE represents a fresh approach to driving growth across a very special region in a way that benefits all.

We are the first of Scotland’s public agencies to promote a wider view of the economy and how it impacts all we do. Jobs, businesses, communities and the environment are all equally important to us. We want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to fulfil their ambitions, no matter who or where they are.

What You’ll Do Day-to-Day

This is a hands-on, varied role offering fantastic exposure to a wide range of HR issues with a 50/50 split between HR administration and L&D coordination, and you will be expected to work confidently across both areas. The successful candidate will have strong HR administration/assistant experience and will be supporting approximately 140 employees and managers in a busy, fast-paced environment.

As HR & L&D Assistant you’ll provide proactive administrative support across the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, contract and payroll changes, absence management, and maintaining accurate HR systems and records. A key part of the role includes supporting Learning & Development by coordinating training opportunities, maintaining the Learning Experience Platform, creating learning content, and managing bookings and mandatory training records.

The postholder will help improve HR processes and deliver a high-quality HR service that supports and champions our employee-centred approach.

The Skills and Personal Attributes You’ll Need to Have

We’re looking for a proactive and enthusiastic team member with strong HR and L & D administration experience, capable of delivering efficient support across the full employee lifecycle. You need to be well organised, customer-focused and confident managing HR queries, data, systems and documentation. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential, along with a collaborative, employee-centred approach.

What We’ll Offer You

We offer a competitive and varied reward package, designed to cover your wellbeing, your lifestyle, your working life and your future, including 43 days holiday annually and a generous pension contribution. Our salary ranges are designed to be competitive, and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range, except in exceptional circumstances.

At South of Scotland Enterprise, we celebrate and support differences. We are an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to offering equal employment opportunities regardless of race, colour, ancestral heritage, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, gender identity and expression, or veteran status. If you need any adjustments to support your application, such as information in alternative formats or special requirements to access our buildings, or if you’re eligible under The Disability Confident Scheme please contact us and we’ll do all we can to support you.

We operate a hybrid working model balancing working from home with attendance at the office to meet the needs of our employees, your team and clients.

This role is full time and expected to last up to 12 months.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 15th March 2026 m and interviews will be held week commencing 23rd March.

If you are an Inclusive, Responsible and Bold individual who is always Striving for success and believe you have something to offer the South of Scotland as HR & L & D Assistant then we would love to hear from you.
