Payroll Process Consultant
Position OverviewWe are seeking a highly experienced Payroll Process Consultant to process, stabilize, audit, and optimize payroll operations for a complex U.S. workforce. This role is ideal for a detail‑oriented expert who thrives in fast-paced environments, excels at digging into processes, and enjoys building best‑practice systems for long-term scalability. The Payroll Process Consultant will play a critical role in end‑to‑end payroll execution, auditing, documentation, and strategic process improvement.
- Schedule: Flexible, full-time hours. Monday-Friday, onsite
- Overtime: Flexible; periods of high intensity expected during audits or process changes.
- Location: Onsite in Denver strongly preferred. Exceptional Payroll Process Consultant candidates may be considered for remote work following an initial onsite integration period. Hybrid options available for top talent.
- Reporting Structure: Reports to senior payroll and operations leadership, with daily interaction across payroll, HR, finance, and systems stakeholders.
- Decision Makers: Hiring decisions require approval from payroll leadership with budget consultation from finance/IT.
The Payroll Process Consultant will manage end‑to‑end biweekly and monthly U.S. payroll in ADP, resolving discrepancies, ensuring compliance, and executing accurate, timely processing across multi‑state employee populations.
2. System & Process Auditing – 25%Conduct immediate audits of status changes, duplicate entries, tax and benefit integrations, retro activity, and data accuracy. Identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
3. Documentation & SOP Development – 15%Document workflows, create standard operating procedures, map processes, and train internal team members to close knowledge gaps and prevent recurring errors.
4. Process Improvement & Strategy – 10%Advise leadership on long-term structure, team capacity, systems capabilities, and strategic improvements. The Payroll Process Consultant will evaluate current-state workflows and recommend future-state design.
Minimum Qualifications Must Have- Advanced ADP Workforce Now expertise (U.S., multi‑state).
- 5–10 years of payroll experience.
- Payroll certifications strongly preferred (CPP or equivalent).
- Demonstrated audit, project, and error-resolution background.
- Proven success improving payroll processes and documentation.
- Strong Excel capability, including lookups, pivot tables, and error-checking.
- Canadian payroll exposure.
- Experience with benefits system integrations.
- Background in systems implementation or optimization projects.
