Placement is currently partnering with an established and highly respected law firm to identify an experienced HR Generalist to join their growing team. This is a fully remote position, with occasional travel to the firm’s corporate office in NYC, offering the opportunity to work with a collaborative leadership team and a strong, people-focused culture.
This role is critical to the firm’s success and will serve as a key point of contact for employees and leadership across the organization. The ideal candidate brings extremely strong, hands-on HR experience and thrives in an environment where accuracy, discretion, and professionalism are essential.
Position Overview
The HR Generalist will be responsible for the full lifecycle of HR operations, including onboarding, employee relations, compliance, benefits administration, performance management support, and HR process improvement. This role requires a high level of autonomy, sound judgment, and the ability to confidently partner with leadership in a professional services environment.
Key Responsibilities
Onboarding & Offboarding
- Own and manage the entire onboarding process, ensuring a seamless and professional experience for all new hires
- Coordinate offer letters, background checks, employment documentation, and system access
- Conduct new hire orientations and ensure compliance with firm policies and procedures
- Manage offboarding processes, including exit interviews, final documentation, and system deactivation
HR Operations & Employee Lifecycle
- Serve as a trusted HR resource for employees and managers across the firm
- Administer and maintain employee records, HRIS data, and personnel files
- Support performance management processes, including reviews, feedback cycles, and documentation
- Advise managers on employee relations matters, performance issues, and policy interpretation
- Handle sensitive employee matters with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment
Compliance & Policy Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, with a strong emphasis on New York regulations
- Maintain and update employee handbook, HR policies, and internal procedures
- Support internal audits and ensure accurate HR documentation
- Stay current on employment law changes and best practices, recommending updates as needed
Benefits & Leave Administration
- Administer employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, and leave programs
- Act as a point of contact for benefits questions and employee support
- Coordinate open enrollment and benefits communications
- Manage leaves of absence, accommodations, and related documentation
HR Strategy & Process Improvement
- Partner with leadership to improve HR processes, workflows, and employee experience
- Identify opportunities to enhance onboarding, engagement, and retention
- Support firm initiatives related to culture, training, and organizational development
- Assist with special HR projects as the firm continues to grow
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- 7+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally within a professional services or law firm environment
- Extremely strong onboarding and employee lifecycle experience
- In-depth knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
- Proven ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
- Experience working independently in a remote environment
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR strongly preferred
