Talent Manager
Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Human Resource Generalist / Investigator. This HR Generalist position manages personnel issues, mediation and investigations. The position also partners with leadership and manages the day-to-day operations of human resources tasks. This position consults, advises, and partners with management on personnel issues, performance management, recruitment and selection, discipline, drug testing, employee relations, training, VEBA, worker’s compensation and safety.

Required Education And Experience- Related Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Public Administration, Human Resources, Communications or closely related field.
- Two (2) years of human resources related experience.
Experience may substitute for education.
This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities- Advanced knowledge of investigations, mediation, state and federal employment laws, labor relations.
- Knowledge of behaviors and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; and assessment.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service, needs assessment, quality standards, and evaluation of customer satisfaction; public relations and business communications, and presentation and technical writing methods.
- Skill in operating a personal computer and business software applications (word, spreadsheets, databases, TEAMS); project planning and administration; speaking persuasively; conciliating; discerning others’ underlying concerns; diffusing volatile situations.
- Critical thinking skills; use of logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions; estimating how changes will affect outcomes.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and credibility; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to research, gather and analyze facts; to develop and interpret policy; to handle confidential and sensitive information; to plan and organize investigative information; to make professional judgments; to solve problems with a reasonable, common-sense approach.
- The successful candidate must pass a name-based background investigation as a condition of employment.
