Auto Canada is seeking a Benefits Specialist to join our team. The Benefits Specialist at Auto Canada plays a key role in supporting the administration and delivery of employee benefits programs across both unionized and non-unionized employee groups. This position ensures compliance with collective agreements, company policies, and applicable legislation, while providing exceptional service to employees and stakeholders.

What drives your day-to-day?

  • Administer group benefits programs including health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and retirement plans.
  • Act as a primary contact for team members inquiries regarding benefits, claims, eligibility, and coverage.
  • Coordinate short-term and long-term disability claims, working closely with insurers, employees, and healthcare providers.
  • Manage leave of absence requests (, medical, parental, personal), ensuring compliance with internal policies and applicable legislation.
  • Support return-to-work planning and accommodations in collaboration with HR and management.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to benefits and disability/leave cases.
  • Ensures benefits administration aligns with collective agreements for unionized employees and internal policies for non-unionized team members.
  • Coordinate with external providers (, insurers, brokers, third-party administrators) to resolve issues and ensure service quality.
  • Support onboarding, life event changes, rate increases and salary updates processes.
  • Maintain accurate records in HRIS and benefits systems; ensure data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with Payroll staff to ensure accurate deductions and benefits-related transactions.
  • Assist in preparing reports, audits, and reconciliations related to benefits.
  • Monitor legislative changes and ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations (, ESA, CRA, privacy laws).
  • Participate in wellness initiatives and employee engagement programs.
  • Provide training and education sessions for employees on benefits offerings and updates.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee data

  • What are the must-haves…

  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the role
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in benefits administration, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian benefits legislation and collective agreement interpretation.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.
  • CHRP designation or working toward it is considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English/French).
