An organisation in the education sector is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to oversee the accurate and timeous processing of payroll across the business. This role is responsible for managing payroll inputs, maintaining system data, ensuring statutory compliance, and providing support to internal stakeholders. The position follows a flexible hours working model, working half-day or rather specific full days as well as a hybrid opportunity if preferred.
Responsibilities Payroll Administration & ProcessingOversee the full payroll function, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all payroll inputs.
Process new hires, resignations, terminations, salary adjustments, benefits changes, and other employee movements.
Maintain and update payroll systems, ensuring employee information is captured and kept up to date.
Prepare and process EFT files, third-party payments, and statutory contributions.
Ensure medical aid, pension/provident, and risk benefit payments are completed within required time frames.
Serve as the first point of contact for payroll queries and system-related issues.
Compliance & ReportingEnsure all payroll activities comply with relevant legislation, statutory requirements, and company policies.
Prepare payroll reconciliation and support internal and external audit processes.
Liaise with financial and statutory bodies where required.
Generate payroll reports, exception reports, and general ledger reconciliation for month-end close.
Month-End & Payment FacilitationCapture and verify monthly payroll updates before running simulations and live payroll cycles.
Prepare statutory returns and payments, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
Reconcile payroll outputs to financial records and assist Finance with month-end processes.
Maintain accurate records and ensure proper archiving of payroll documentation.
Requirements- Relevant tertiary qualification in Finance, HR, or related field (Bachelor of Commerce advantageous).
- 5+ years’ experience in a payroll-focusedrole.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll systems(experience with SAGE 300 a must).
- Solid understanding of payroll-relatedlegislation, including tax, UIF, SDL, WCA/COIDA, and general labour law.
- Experience with payroll requirements across multiple African countries would be an advantage.
- Strong numerical skills and attention todetail.
- Ability to work with confidential information and maintain a high level of professionalism.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities.
Half-day
Hybrid working model, with 2 days in the office and 3 days working from home.
