First and foremost, the Director of Sales is a leader. The Director guides the sales team (with direct oversight of sales managers and coordinators) by developing and implementing sales strategies to increase the company’s profit and motivates the team to hit sales goals. The Director of Sales also conducts research on the competition and supply and demand costs to determine appropriate group and business transient strategy.
In addition, they ensure that sales activities and bookings are focused to yield maximum revenue per available guest room and any meeting or event space where applicable.
- Oversee, guide, and develop the Sales team.
- Develop sales action plans and execute accordingly to achieve established revenue goals.
- Target accounts by mapping specific businesses and their buying tendencies.
- Oversee all sales-related activities, including but not limited to concessions, contract negotiations, rate quoting, deposit schedules, rooming lists and other documents.
- Participate in monthly forecasts for sales-driven segments and events.
- Maintain an organized departmental plan for correspondence and follow-up.
- Promote local awareness through maintaining relationships with CVB and other industry partners and organizations.
- Conduct site tours to showcase the property.
- Entertain clients on property.
- Host FAM stays to agents selling and booking the market.
- Have a working knowledge of local and regional competition, as well as market conditions that might affect revenues.
- Consistently evaluate trends within the market and react appropriately, involving all necessary departments.
- Work closely with the Operations team through ensuring the timely execution and delivery of resumes and banquet event orders.
- Participation in the hotel’s weekly revenue meeting to review strategy and business needs.
- Participate in weekly leadership meetings.
- Execute Lodge Works’ initiated sales and marketing programs.
- Assist with the completion of the hotel’s annual budget.
- Provide clear direction and feedback on a regular basis to all Sales team employees.
- Travel to meet clients and attend trade shows.
- Conduct performance reviews according to Lodge Works’ standards.
