American Cruise Lines, the largest USA‑flagged cruise line, is looking to add Assistant Hotel Managers to our shipboard team for the 2026 season. With newly constructed vessels joining our fleet, this is a great opportunity to join a small‑ship experience that operates exclusively within the United States.

The Assistant Hotel Manager (AHM) assists the Hotel Manager in supervising the shipboard hotel management team to ensure the quality of service, consistency of standards, and guests’ expectations are met. The AHM is responsible for service excellence and superior guest satisfaction, accounting for the performance of all Hotel Department crew members, particularly the hotel officers and executive chef. The AHM reports to the Hotel Manager and embraces American Cruise Lines values—Optimism, Commitment, Patriotism, and Merit—guiding us in sharing America’s story on our finest ships.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the Housekeeping Manager and Restaurant Manager as directed by the Hotel Manager.
  • Assist the Hotel Manager and, when required, perform duties of Hotel General Manager when the latter is off ship.
  • Support the Restaurant Manager during all meal services and oversee bartender stewardship for secondary bar operations.
  • Prepare with the Hotel Manager for turnover and handoff of duties during scheduled time off.
  • Be present and available during all meal services, including front or back of house and secondary dining outlets.
  • Assist with stateroom inspections and coordinate with the Housekeeping Manager on the Turnaround Day process.
  • Maintain leadership, professional presence, and visibility for all guests and crew.
  • Hold officers and crew accountable to company standards and comply with the Operations Manual.
  • Assess management team performance and provide immediate corrective feedback.
  • Anticipate and quickly respond to guest requests, ensuring follow‑through on service delivery.
  • Identify and resolve problems, seeking home office support as needed.
  • Assist with breakfast, lunch, dinner services, cocktail hour, and onboard events.
  • Oversee crew orientation, training, scheduling, uniform standards, and discipline.
  • Assist ship officers in achieving weekly sales goals.
  • Maintain cleanliness in passenger areas and enforce housekeeping standards.
  • Maintain sanitation standards in crew rooms.
  • Monitor shipboard business transactions, accounting, timecards, and reporting.
  • Complete daily ship inspections with HGM & HKM to ensure cleanliness and generate special projects.
  • Track all hotel maintenance items and ensure completion.
  • Create consistent and positive crew experiences to improve employee retention.
  • Perform bartending duties as needed with other management personnel.
  • Expedite breakfast service in the main dining room, ensuring timely service and food quality.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management or Hotel & Restaurant Management preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years management experience at a full‑service hotel, resort, or cruise ship.
  • Business degree, military experience, or other relevant experience may be considered.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills (English).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Availability to travel and work a flexible schedule, including 14‑15 hour days for six to eight weeks at a time.
  • US Coast Guard regulated pre‑employment drug test.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

Work Schedule
  • 7 days per week while onboard.
  • 6 to 8 weeks working and living on the ship.
  • 1 to 2 weeks shore leave vacation.
