Assistant Psychologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for 3 Assistant Psychologists to join South Durham, Adult Community Planned Care.

Supervised by a Clinical Psychologist, the successful candidate will work alongside supportive, innovative and collaborative multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high quality and timely evidence-based care to people in the community.

Applicants must have a degree in Psychology and be eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

You must have the Right to Work in the UK in order to be successfully appointed to this role. Sponsorship may be available for this role in specific circumstances in line with Home Office regulations, where applicants were granted permission as a Skilled Worker under the immigration rules in place before 22 July 2025, and have had continuous permission as a Skilled Worker since then.

Main duties of the job

The post holders will be involved in supporting the provision of psychologically informed care and psychological interventions through direct and indirect clinical activities. This will include attendance at multidisciplinary meetings, contribution to psychological assessment and formulation, developing behaviour support plans, non-pharmacological interventions, groups and evaluation of outcomes.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Degree in psychology.
  • Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience of community sensitive information
  • Understanding of needs of people with mental ill health
  • Awareness of the application of psychology within health care
  • Demonstrate aware of confidentiality within health care
Experience
  • Some experience of people using services in psychological, mental health and/or social care settings. This may include, for example, personal experience or supporting a family member to access services.
  • Experience in discussing and responding to issues related to cultural diversity, intersectionality and inclusivity, including working with vulnerable groups (e.g. those for whom English is not their first language).
  • Post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
