Overview
Healthcare – ODS Certified Data Abstractor (Remote). This position is responsible for case‑finding and abstraction of cancer data for hospitals. Candidates must be ODS Certified (Oncology Data Specialist Certification).
Responsibilities- Complete case‑finding for assigned facilities by reviewing pathology reports, the disease index, suspense lists in Meditech, Patient n reports, and merging appropriate cases into Metriq.
- Review medical records to abstract information according to the standards of the Commission on Cancer (CoC) and the State Central Cancer Registry.
- Perform timely abstraction of assigned cases to meet CoC or State Central Cancer Registry standards, typically within six months of patient contact.
- Complete edit checks and make appropriate changes promptly.
- Follow CoC and state data standards and coding instructions to abstract all reportable cases.
- Assist with data collection for special studies.
- Assist with submission of data to the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) for the annual Call for Data.
- Assist with monthly data submission to the appropriate State Central Cancer Registry.
- Resolve errors that result in the rejection of records from the NCDB or State Central Cancer Registry.
- Attend state and national educational activities as approved by the Director.
- Participate in required continuing education programs and annual reorientation as required by Parallon.
- Knowledge of disease index and pathology reports.
- Knowledge of human anatomy.
- Computer skills, including data input, Meditech, and other required software.
- Preferred: 3 years of cancer data abstraction or medical records experience.
- High school degree (or equivalent) required.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
- Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification required (effective 01/01/2024; formerly Certified Tumor Registrar).
Salary: $45.25 / hr
