Overview
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the IMCU Department. This is a full-time Night shift (12-hr shift) position in Charlottesville, VA.
Work ShiftThird (Nights)
Hours7PM to 7AM. Three 12-hour shifts (36 hours per week) with rotating weekends.
Department/Position OverviewIntermediate Care Unit - Cornell 1:
The Telemetry/Stroke Unit at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital provides care for patients with cardiac conditions including heart failure, cardiac rhythm disturbances, newly implanted permanent pacemakers and defibrillators, post‑coronary interventions, post‑ablation, myocardial infarctions. Cornell 1 also cares for TIA, acute stroke, and post‑procedural neuro cases that step down from ICU. This 30‑bed unit sees a ratio of 1:5 with mixed patient acuity levels and is well supported with additional patient care technicians, educators, and a strong leadership team.

Provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.
Education- HS – High School Grad or Equivalent
- One of the following programs:
Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of an RN, LPN, RT or PT or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.
- AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
- One year of health care experience is preferred.
