Position: Overdose Helpline Operator, General Internal Medicine (per diem)

What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
  • Manage incoming calls from individuals seeking assistance for themselves or others
  • Provide immediate guidance on overdose recognition and response, including administering naloxone
  • Assess the severity of situations and identify potential overdose risks through effective communication
  • Collaborate with emergency responders and healthcare professionals for timely intervention
  • Document interactions accurately in the REDCap database
What is Required (Qualifications):
  • Relevant lived experience with overdose, harm reduction, or substance use preferred
  • Demonstrated crisis management skills with empathy and professionalism
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to engage with diverse populations
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality regarding caller information
  • Comfortable using helpline software and communication platforms
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Experience in a similar role within addiction services or crisis intervention
  • Familiarity with harm reduction principles and practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Knowledge of local resources for substance use treatment and support
  • Flexibility and adaptability in high-pressure situations
