Rotating - 7a‑3p, 7a‑5p, 7a‑7p, 11a‑7p, 3‑11p, 11a‑11p or a combination for 40h rotating shifts.

The Certified Surgical Assistant anticipates the needs of the surgical team. The Surgical Assistant assists the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, setting up various tables and positioning equipment, providing retraction for visualization of the surgical site, cauterization of bleeding vessels, suturing and closure of incision, instillation of medications, application of surgical dressings, splints, and casts. In addition to intraoperative duties, the surgical assistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care, using effective interdisciplinary communication to facilitate optimal patient outcomes.

• Graduate of CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Surgical Assistant Program
• Medical licensing:
  Surgical Assistant license required for appropriate state of practice.
• Virginia Surgical Assistant License REQUIRED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification REQUIRED
• No experience required
• Prior Surgical Experience PREFERRED

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is located in Virginia Beach, VA, and is home to the region’s only Level III Trauma Center.
