An opportunity has arisen for an innovative and enthusiastic Registered Mental Health Nurse (Band
6) to join the Crisis Mental Health Nursing team working as an integral member of the MDT.
- 1st from start date for 06 months - Innistaigh
- 2nd starts 10th May 2026 for 48 weeks - Innistaigh
- 2nd starts on 8th June 2026 for 48 weeks - Mountainhall Treatment Centre
The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing patients within Dumfries and Galloway who present in acute mental health crisis and to provide recommendations, advice or interventions.
The post holder will work with colleagues from within the Mental Health Directorate and liaise with 3rd Sector Agencies, to support and further develop the Crisis Service, patient pathway and support staff development to enhance patient recovery and ensure a seamless care and treatment.
You must be able to demonstrate that you possess the skills and abilities necessary to effectively work within a clinical team in order to support safe and effective clinical assessment for patients who receive our service in NHS D&G; whereby excellent communication skills and the ability to develop strong therapeutic and working relationships with our partners in Health & Social Care Services is a vital part of this post.
The ideal candidate will have experience in working with people with a mental health disorder and will hold a Registered Mental Health Nurse Qualification as demonstrated within the Person Specification and Job Description. Evidence of continual professional development is essential.
They will also be able to demonstrate strong leadership qualities and the ability to make effective clinical decisions in pressurised environments.
This post will engage in shift work as the service operates on a 24/7 basis.
As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.

This post may involve clinic and home visits in remote and rural areas therefore a current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence, consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
