As defined by the American College of Surgeons, Surgical Assistants (SAs) are trained individuals who actively assist the surgeon in completing operations safely and expeditiously by providing exposure, maintaining homeostasis, and performing other technical functions.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist or 1 year experience as a Surgical First Assistant.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
