Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Blood TransfusionThe closing date is 08 March 2026
You will be an experienced Transfusionist who is skilled at independent working and accustomed to a range of blood component issues, using both automated technologies and manual techniques, and blood tracking software.
The role is based at Royal Papworth Hospital within a small team. The expectation would be the ideal candidate can learn quickly and be on shift within a short training and competency assessment period. The experienced Biomedical Scientist would be required to work a 12-hour shift pattern covering a 24/7 shift system.
Main duties of the jobBiomedical Scientists perform blood grouping, antibody screening and identification, direct antiglobulin testing, cross matching and issuing of components. You will have strong communication skills to disseminate complex transfusion information, in a manner that the clinical area could understand. RPH blood transfusion laboratory has a variety of information technology systems that allows for remote electronic issue from a main theatre fridge. Experience of using Electronic Patient Record and Haemonetics Blood track system would be desirable requirement for the role.
The ability to understand RPH transfusion processes, troubleshoot and problem-solve are required for the demands of the service.
