This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 or 7 dietitian with UGI surgical experience to support the department to deliver high quality care to patients being treated within the UGI Unit at the Churchill Hospital. You will provide advice and support the needs of this complex group of patients pre‑, peri‑ and post‑treatment. You will lead the creation and establishment of this service, supported by the Implementation Lead Nurse, Team Lead and Service Manager, and will also undertake quality improvement projects, clinical audit and CPD, as well as ongoing service development and potential research.

Lead the development and provision of a highly specialist, evidence‑based dietetic service to patients treated within the UGI unit at the Churchill Hospital.
Responsibilities include:
- Work autonomously as a clinical specialist in the provision of a comprehensive nutrition and dietetic service to the Upper Gastrointestinal Unit.
- Lead and coordinate dietetic provision, ensuring a comprehensive specialised service for oesophogastric (OG), hepato‑pancreato‑biliary (HBP), pancreatitis, oncology and surgical patients.
- Early appropriate management of nutritionally related surgical and treatment issues to improve patient outcomes, reduce costs and prevent avoidable readmissions.
- Conduct early dietetic assessment and provide individualised nutrition therapy/interventions for patients pre‑, peri‑ and post‑treatment, and those at risk or with disease‑related malnutrition.
- Attend OG & HBP ward rounds and MDT meetings to identify patients requiring nutrition therapy/interventions, facilitate referrals (e.g., tube placement, TPN), and support safe discharge planning.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers, family and health professionals, including use of communication aids when necessary.
- Participate in research and audit, present findings at national or international conferences, and contribute to service improvement.
- Provide specialist advice, teaching and training to multidisciplinary team members and support dietetic staff (e.g., supervise Band 6 Dietitian, Band 4 Support Worker).
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date documentation of patient interventions in dietetic record cards and electronic patient records.
- Support service development projects, manage quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of the department’s dietetic service.
- Recognised Nutrition & Dietetic Degree or equivalent.
- Registered with the Health Professions Council as a Dietitian.
- Evidence of successful completion of significant specialist post‑graduate training equivalent to Masters level in this clinical area.
- Member of the British Dietetic Association.
- Member of a relevant Specialist Interest Group.
- Evidence of training as a clinical supervisor.
- Comprehensive knowledge of artificial nutrition support (enteral and parenteral).
- Excellent and up‑to‑date knowledge of national policies and guidelines relevant to the service.
- Evidence of research, audit or project work.
- Experience of clinical service development and reflective practice.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Able to travel to clinical sites and training venues across the county.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration. The role is offered within Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which provides a range of general and specialist clinical services and a base for medical education, training and research.
