A Day in the Life

The Structural Heart & Aortic Operating Unit focuses on developing and delivering innovative, minimally invasive solutions for the treatment of heart valve diseases and other structural heart conditions. This includes transcatheter and surgical therapies designed to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. The unit’s portfolio includes transcatheter aortic and mitral valve replacement and repair devices, as well as technologies for left atrial appendage management and other structural heart interventions.

We are seeking a committed professional for a remote position that requires residence within the territory and travel to multiple accounts. A valid driver’s license is essential. Travel will be 70% of the role.

Principal Medical Science Technical Field Engineer

The Principal Medical Science Technical Field Engineer will provide expertise and leadership in physician education, clinical evidence interpretation, and Medtronic employee education.

Responsibilities include:

Off/on Label Requests for Medical Information
  • Receive and respond to on‑label and unsolicited off‑label requests per Corporate Policy.
  • Identify issues or trends from requests and communicate findings to internal stakeholders.
  • Drive education for safe and effective use of our products through evidence‑based responses.
Medical Intelligence
  • Gather feedback from KOLs, clinician societies, and patient advocacy groups to inform R&D priorities and clinical research plans.
Strategic Partner
  • Build and strengthen relationships across Medtronic to support collaborative solutions with sales and service teams.
Builds Alliances
  • Maintain high‑trust relationships based on technical expertise and clinical evidence with key customers across the region.
Strategic Site Engagement
  • Collaborate across functions to develop and implement individual site engagement plans supporting scientific partnerships.
  • Provide case support for complex procedural approaches to aortic therapy as the field Medical Science resource.
  • Support clinical study cases, acting on the direction of clinical study teams to discuss potential study sites.
Must Have,

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum 4 years of direct hospital or clinic experience, or 2 years with an advanced degree.
Nice to Have
  • Degree in biomedical engineering or nursing.
  • Vascular OR, hospital/clinic experience.
  • Experience teaching and educating medical personnel, peers, and technical support personnel.
  • Thorough working knowledge of medical terminology and the medical device industry.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to build/maintain positive relationships across organization levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate/participate in multiple tasks/projects in a fast‑paced environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic in accomplishing position objectives.
  • Expertise with Microsoft tools and other business applications (i.e., ).
  • Ability to meet vendor credentialing requirements.

Benefits & Compensation

Medtronic offers a competitive salary and flexible benefits package designed to support employees at every career and life stage. Salary ranges for U.S. locations (excluding Puerto Rico) are $162,400 – $243,600. The position is eligible for the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
