Certified Surgical Assistant II- Main Operating Room

Overview:

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital - Operating Room is hiring a full-time Certified Surgical Assistant II for a full-time, second shift position.

City/State: Charlottesville, VA

Work Shift: Second (Evenings)

Hours: 9am to 9pm – 36 hours per week. No Call Required.

Schedule: Block scheduling, 3 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 6 days off.

Sign-On Bonus: Up to $15,000 for qualified candidates.

Department Information: The Operating Room performs an average of 7,000 cases each year, has 8 OR suites, and offers a variety of service lines including Complex GYN, Neurosurgery, Vascular/Thoracic, and Orthopedic surgery. It is the 2nd highest-performing OR in the Sentara system for Orthopedic total joint procedures.

The Surgical Assistant II anticipates the needs of the surgical team. Duties include selecting equipment, setting up tables and positioning equipment, providing retraction for visualization, cauterizing bleeding vessels, suturing and closing incision, instilling medications, applying surgical dressings, splints, and casts. Additional duties include preoperative and postoperative patient care, interdisciplinary communication, and participation in departmental improvement projects, quality improvement, and in‑services.

• Graduate of CAAHEP accredited Surgical Assistant Program
• Licensed Surgical Assistant – Virginia
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA)
• 3 years of operating room experience
• Demonstrated clinical and technical skills in three surgical specialties
• Effective interdisciplinary communication
