- Hourly rate: $18.15 – $19.40 based on experience
This full‑time on‑site role is located at Covenant – St Joseph Healthcare – Bangor, ME.
Senior Patient Access Specialist– Key Responsibilities
- Assign accurate MRNs, complete medical necessity or compliance checks, and provide proper patient instructions.
- Collect insurance information, receive and process physician orders using overlay tools, and deliver excellent customer service measured by Press Ganey.
- Operate the telephone switchboard for incoming, outgoing, and inter‑office calls.
- Utilize quality auditing and reporting systems to ensure accounts are corrected and audit standards are met.
- Develop training materials and programs for new hires and provide continuing education to associates.
- Develop and maintain staff schedules within the patient access department.
- Provide on‑call responsibilities for the department, including after‑hours support and guidance.
- Collect point‑of‑service payments, including past‑due balances, and offer payment plan options.
- Explain consent forms to patients, obtain necessary signatures, and distribute educational documents.
- Review eligibility responses in the insurance verification system, enter benefit data for POS collections and billing.
- Screen medical necessity using ABA software for Medicare patients and distribute ABN as appropriate.

Qualifications- Job
Experience:
1 to 3 years - Education Level: Associate degree or equivalent experience
- Understanding of revenue cycle, including admission, billing, payments, and denials.
- Comprehensive knowledge of patient insurance processes for obtaining authorizations and benefits verification.
- Knowledge of health insurance requirements.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, or procedure codes.
