An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Children and Young Person (C&YP) Specialist Practitioner to join the Norfolk and Waveney ME/CFS Service. We welcome applications from occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nurses or applicants from other professions with HCPC registration (or equivalent). We are looking for a professional with a passion for supporting C&YP and their families through the challenges of managing ME/CFS symptoms and the complexity of balancing this with education and other demands.

You will have experience of working closely with C&YP and their families providing support, advice and advocacy with the education and health and social care systems. Applicants will have an interest and good understanding of ME/CFS and the strategies used to support people with the condition.

This post is being offered as full time or part time (minimum 22.5 hours per week) and flexible working patterns will be considered.

Post holder will be working across different clinic locations in Norfolk and Waveney including Norwich, Lowestoft and Kings Lynn.

Main duties of the job

To effectively manage a complex clinical caseload, with the majority being C&YP, to a high professional standard as an autonomous practitioner.

To support C&YP and their families to manage ME/CFS symptoms and supporting C&YP to remain in education where possible.

To work closely with education providers, SENCOs and local authorities to provide information, education and advice about the impact of ME/CFS on C&YP.

To undertake comprehensive assessment of C&YP, including those with complex presentation, using investigative and analytical skills and to formulate individualised management and treatment plans, using clinical reasoning and utilising a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate a specialised programme of care.

To provide spontaneous and planned specialist C&YP advice, teaching, and instruction to relatives, carers and other professions to promote understanding of the aims of treatment in ME/CFS and to ensure a consistent approach to care.

To communicate effectively with C&YP and carers to maximise the potential for improvement of symptoms and to ensure understanding of the condition.

To be able to work with children of all ages and abilities so that they can be involved in assessment and treatment decisions as appropriate.

The Norfolk and Waveney ME/CFS Service is a multidisciplinary team consisting of occupational therapists, a physiotherapist and GPs with Special Interest in ME/CFS. We offer holistic, person centred treatment to people with ME/CFS of any age and focus on providing education and advice to support long-term self-management of ME/CFS symptoms. We offer hybrid working which includes working from home and in clinic settings across Norfolk and Waveney.

The service is delivered via face to face, telephone and video appointments.
