Position: Medical Biller 2

Overview

The Lincoln County Health and Human Services Department is looking for a Medical Biller 2 for their team. This person will review medical claims, prior and subsequent to billing, to ensure accuracy and facilitate reimbursements. This position is also responsible for applying bookkeeping methods to a variety of recording and auditing functions.

This is a remote position with the occasional requirement to work in-person in Newport, OR.

Remote worker must live within the State of Oregon.

$25.32 - $29.36 per hour*

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities Billing and Coding
  • Review charges prior to initial claims submission to ensure accuracy. Make corrections as needed, whether minor or major.
  • Review outpatient medical and mental health claim denials and rejections for any coding errors, correct and resubmit claims as appropriate.
  • Correct some major errors (e.g., Coding per payer billing requirements, Diagnosis ordering) identified by any Medical Biller
    1. Route major errors requiring certified coder review as appropriate.
  • Research insurance eligibility status and make adjustments.
Financial
  • Post receipts, invoices, adjustments, and payments for all clinics in electronic health record system.
  • Generate daily and monthly control reports for services and deposits.
  • Maintain client account balances and bill various accounts.
  • Prepare annual write-offs and purge financial records.
Customer Service
  • Collect and receipt all client payments. Calculate adjustments on accounts.
  • Answer client questions regarding insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid billings.
  • Assist support staff and providers with billing questions.
Training
  • Create workflow documents for procedures.
  • Assist with the creation, modification, and updating of Policies and Procedures.
  • Train and assist in orientation of new employees.
  • Provide occasional supplemental training for other departments.

Typical Qualifications

Education
Associates degree in a relevant field and/or Coder or Biller certification through AAPC or AHIMA.

Experience
Two
- Three years' experience in medical office work which includes fiscal record keeping, billing, and claim submission; including or supplemented by courses in medical billing.

Certifications
Coder or Biller through AAPC or AHIMA

  • If certified as a Coder or Biller, the employee is required to maintain current and active certification, and to provide the appropriate verifications at the time of renewals.
Desirable Qualifications

Bilingual and/or bicultural competencies for the Latino population preferred. Federally Qualified Health Center or Rural Health Center experience preferred.

Knowledge Of / Ability To
  • Working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices.
  • Office methods and procedure.
  • Familiarity with the use of standard office machines.
  • Perform detailed work involving written or numerical data and to make mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately.

Lincoln County offers a comprehensive benefit package including vacation, holiday, and sick leave as well as medical, dental, vision which is paid at 90% by the County and 10% by the employee. The County's current contribution rate is 11%.

Regular and Trial Service employees working between 20 - 39 hours per week on a regular basis are eligible for pro-rated employee benefits.
