Overview

Vitalant is seeking a Sr. Director, National Sales to lead and grow strategic customer partnerships that directly support our life-saving mission. This role is responsible for setting the vision, performance, and direction of all sales activities within the Blood Centers Division, ensuring strong, trusted relationships with customers nationwide. Partnering closely with executive leadership, the Sr. Director will drive sustainable growth aligned with Vitalant’s values and strategic objectives, expand our customer base in key markets, and help shape customer training and education programs that strengthen collaboration and patient care outcomes.

This position can work remotely from a work at home office anywhere in the United States.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop high-performing sales teams to deliver strong service, product quality, and financial results
  • Set, execute, and track national sales, expense, and account strategies to achieve revenue and profitability goals
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with hospitals, health systems, and key decision-makers
  • Oversee strategic account management, including account planning, contract negotiation, pricing, and sales reporting
  • Partner with local operating units to align customer strategies, share market and IDN insights, and support account execution
  • Drive new business development, expansion opportunities, and the rollout of new products and services
  • Lead sales meetings, training, and development initiatives to strengthen product knowledge and sales effectiveness
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality customer service and productive sales engagements aligned to account objectives
  • Contribute to annual operating and business planning and manage assigned budgets
  • Stay current on industry trends and represent the organization through professional networks and associations
Qualifications Knowledge / Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of sales and marketing including: business management, financial management forecasting, and sales training required.
  • Thorough knowledge of hospital, health system and group purchasing organization operations required.
Experience
  • Ten years sales and marketing experience in the biological, pharmaceutical, blood service, medical device or plasma industry required. To include:
    • Five years at a senior management level.
    • Five years managing a sales team.
  • Large account or large territory experience required.
Skills / Abilities
  • Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Able to organize, prioritize, and execute a variable workload and multiple priorities.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, synthesize complex business and financial data and develop innovative solutions.
  • Ability to establish priorities and follow through on projects, paying close attention to detail with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and participate as an active member of management.
  • Must have proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to travel (50%+).
