Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse Clinical Coder to support DRG audit activities for one of their major healthcare partners. This role focuses on reviewing inpatient medical records, validating DRG assignments, and ensuring coding accuracy from an insurance and payerside perspective rather than the provider side. This is an excellent opportunity for an RN with coding experience who enjoys analytical work, documentation review, and collaborating with audit teams.
Responsibilities- Perform DRG audits on inpatient medical records to validate ICD
10 coding accuracy and DRG assignment. - Review clinical documentation to ensure compliance with payer guidelines and audit standards.
- Identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities for coding improvement.
- Communicate audit findings clearly and professionally through written reports and outbound calls as needed.
- Collaborate with internal teams to support audit processes and client requirements.
- Maintain uptodate knowledge of ICD
10, DRG methodology, and payer policies.
- Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 5 years of clinical or coding-related experience.
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) required.
- Exposure to DRG coding or DRG audit processes.
- Strong understanding of ICD
10 coding guidelines. - Ability to speak confidently about coding from the insurance/payer perspective.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Nursing background in DRG or inpatient care.
- CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) certification is a plus.
- Prior experience in payer-side audits or clinical documentation review.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC.
PayThe pay range for this position is $33.00 - $43.00/hr.
