Risk Manager – Sentara Health

The Risk Manager will oversee the facility/division's risk management activities, including coordinating insurance coverage and risk financing, managing claims against the division/facility, interfacing with claims adjusters and defense legal counsel, maintaining a loss control program, administering the risk management program, managing and analyzing risk management data, and conducting risk management educational programs.
Responsibilities- Coordinate with division leaders and collaborate with clinical teams to develop strategies to prevent medical error and reduce loss.
- Engage team members to evaluate incidents, conduct investigations, and provide appropriate responses to claims. Ensure compliance with risk management related laws and regulations to control and minimize losses.
- Identify trends and review System reports; conduct loss control audits; review patient care quality to identify possible risk exposures.
- Participate with select committees related to the assessment of patient care and safety, customer satisfaction and facility issues to provide risk management expertise and direction.
Travel required within South Eastern Virginia and the North Eastern North Carolina area (mostly Peninsula, up to Williamsburg, out to Suffolk, and down to Elizabeth City area NC).
Education- Bachelor's degree in related field required.
- Master's degree in Business or Health related field preferred.
- Associate in Risk Management (ARM) certification, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) required within 3 years of hire.
- 2 years in Clinical Compliance, Healthcare Appeals, Risk Management or Healthcare Administration.
- Related experience may include healthcare, nursing, regulatory/compliance, business, risk management, legal, and/or insurance.
