Overview
Welcome to Devon Partnership Trust! We are inviting applications for the Consultant Psychiatrist post located on The Cedars, Wonford House, Exeter. The Cedars comprises two acute inpatient wards for adults of working age with a combined bed base of 32 beds (mixed gender). There is potential for a hybrid remote working pattern depending on the post. Extra Programmed Activities are negotiable for clinical, research, innovation, teaching, medical management and other special interests.
The post holder will be based on one of the wards at The Cedars in Exeter and be responsible for a maximum of 16 patients. A private office with PC/laptop access, a medical secretary, and strong support from a full-time medical staffing department are provided. There are resident doctors and MPAC provisions on the ward. The role is suitable for a first-time NHS consultant, an existing consultant, or a post-retirement consultant with broad general adult psychiatric expertise.
International candidates are welcome. Experience in adult acute inpatient mental health services is preferable, with support for movement from other psychiatric specialties or roles.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients managed informally and those detained under the Mental Health Act in the capacity of Responsible Clinician. They will provide leadership to the wider urgent and inpatient care pathway and help ensure efficient, patient-centred care flow across the Trust. The post includes participation in the on-call rota, with cross-coverage from other consultants for leave.
Approved Clinician status at appointment is preferable; those eligible (e.g., doctors applying from abroad) will be supported to obtain this authority. The Trust has excellent IT and an electronic record system, with ongoing clinician-led design of our own clinical record system. A mentor and peer group will be provided, with 2.5 Supporting Programmed Activities (10 hours/week) to support professional development, attendance at monthly peer group meetings, quarterly medical advisory committee meetings, and local post-graduate meetings.

Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 per year.
