Position: Prevention Specialist - North Davis CTC. (Part-time)

Overview

Davis Behavioral Health, Inc. (DBH) is recruiting a part-time Prevention Specialist for the North Davis CTC (Clinton, Clearfield, Syracuse, Sunset, West Point) to join the Prevention Education team. The overarching goal is to collaborate with colleagues and community partners to prevent youth substance use and mental health concerns in Davis County through programs and strategies. The Prevention Specialist will support a community coalition through an evidence-based prevention framework.

This position is funded by the DFC grant.

Essential Job Functions

This position is part-time and will work 29.5 hours per week. Time spent on responsibilities will be scaled to fit these hours. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the mission of DBH by providing prevention science education to key stakeholders and community members.
  • Work as a team to develop, implement, assess, and report on strategies to meet program goals.
  • Continually broaden expertise in the area of substance use prevention.
  • Conduct literature/resource reviews to identify best practices for coordinating a community coalition.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and support a community coalition, including educating members on prevention science and communicating to promote collaboration, negotiation, and problem solving.
  • Intentionally build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders such as policy makers, city leaders, police departments, religious leaders, business owners, and educators.
  • Collaborate with the Diversity Coordinator to recruit and maintain a diverse coalition membership that represents and serves all community members.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct educational and training activities, including developing trainings, reference materials, and workshops for coalition and community members.
  • Develop a comprehensive substance use prevention strategic plan, including: needs assessment; collecting, managing, and analyzing community health indicators data; identifying and prioritizing substance use problems; raising stakeholder awareness; mobilizing community partnerships; conducting planning activities; directing coalition in developing health policies related to substance use prevention.
  • Continuously evaluate and update the coalition's strategic plan and effectiveness.
  • Write, manage, and report on federal, state, and local grant funding, and be aware of other potential sources of funding.
  • Develop and implement data collection methods, tools, and evaluation measures for coalition activities and projects in conjunction with coalition members.
  • Document and report findings and progress of programs and activities to DBH, funding agencies, and coalition members.
Classification & Schedule

This position is classified as part-time, non-exempt.

Schedule:

29.5 hours per week during regular business hours, with some evenings and weekends as needed. Some remote work may be allowed. Periodic travel is required.

Location

This position works in an office setting and in the community. DBH office hours are at the Main Street Clinic, 934 South Main Street, Layton, Utah.

Compensation

The starting pay is based on related experience, education, and certification as defined below:

  • Prevention Specialist I – $21.00 per hour
  • Prerequisites for Specialist I include:
    Bachelor’s degree with less than 1 year of related experience OR No degree with less than 5 years of related experience
  • Prevention Specialist II – $24.04 per hour
  • Prerequisites for Specialist II include:
    Master’s degree with less than 1 year of related experience OR Bachelor’s degree with more than 1 year of related experience OR No degree with more than 5 years of related experience
Qualifications

Required Education/Licensure/Certification
Bachelor’s degree in public health or related field such as health education, administration, policy/planning, or community/organizational psychology.

Experience

Required:

2+ years of experience with health education programs in a community setting.

Preferred Experience
Master’s degree or 2+ years of appropriate experience coordinating a community-based public health organization or health education program in a community setting.
