Professional Medical Coder II (Remote Position, Must reside in South Carolina) $5,000 Sign-on Bonus

Lexington Medical Center is seeking an experienced Medical Coder II for a full‑time, remote position located in South Carolina. The role offers a $5,000 sign‑on bonus, competitive salary, and comprehensive benefits.

Job Summary

Assign appropriate ICD‑10 and CPT codes for reimbursement and statistical purposes. Follow ICD, CPT, CMS, and other regulatory coding guidelines. Abstract clinical information from medical records for accurate documentation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of professional coding experience covering multiple clinical and/or surgical specialties (including surgical, E/M, or other coding experience as approved by the Director); must meet quality and productivity standards.
  • Active AAPC or AHIMA coding credential.
Required Training
  • Experience with CPT, ICD diagnosis coding
  • Experience with CCI edits
  • Experience with Medicare LCDs and NCDs
  • Understanding of state and federal regulations and payer billing requirements
  • Computers literate; proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience with electronic health record software
  • Experience with E/M documentation guidelines (1995/1997/2021)
Essential Functions
  • Review and interpret medical documentation to accurately assign ICD and CPT codes for reimbursement and statistical purposes.
  • Abstract information into the computer for reimbursement and statistical purposes.
  • Research and stay current with trends in healthcare coding and compliance.
  • Keep department manager updated on coding or documentation issues.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to support departmental and organizational goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work as a team with physicians, coding staff, and other hospital personnel to ensure proper code assignment and continuous quality improvement.
  • Assist with coding claim edits and review claim denials for correction.
  • Report to work in a timely manner and adhere to attendance policies; schedule time off in advance to avoid impacting coding turnaround times.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
