This position is hybrid. The director will work out of a local ministry three days a week. The ministry could be located at any of the Trinity Health sites.

Position PurposeThe Director Spiritual Care – Strategy & Quality (DSSQ) collaborates with the Vice President of Spiritual Care to develop, implement, and evaluate a unified strategy for spiritual care services across Trinity Health. Responsibilities include ensuring that spiritual care programming is evidence‑informed, culturally responsive, aligned with the organization's mission and values, and delivered at the highest levels of quality and consistency. The director provides leadership in strategic planning, clinical standards, quality measurement, leadership development, and innovation for spiritual care departments throughout the organization, and collaborates with related leaders to ensure implementation and alignment across the system.
EssentialFunctions
- Demonstrate the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in all behaviors and decisions.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive organization‑wide spiritual care strategy aligned with mission, values, and long‑term goals.
- Conduct strategic needs assessments and environmental scans to identify emerging trends, gaps, and opportunities.
- Partner with Spiritual Care and Mission Integration leadership to embed spiritual perspectives into organizational initiatives and policy development.
- Establish evidence‑based standards, competencies, and guidelines for spiritual care practitioners; standardize documentation, workflow, and ethical practice.
- Collaborate with DSOE to develop and track metrics for spiritual care quality, utilization, and patient satisfaction.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives, including dashboards and outcomes measurement.
- Monitor regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards relevant to chaplaincy and spiritual care.
- Champion innovation in tele‑chaplaincy, AI, digital spiritual resources, and data‑informed service delivery models.
- Develop training initiatives, certification pathways, and continuing education programs for chaplains and staff.
- Recruit, onboard, and manage Spiritual Care leaders across the system; mentor and provide guidance on strategy and quality improvement.
- Represent the organization in national networks, conferences, professional associations, and interfaith coalitions.
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert, designing and overseeing new programs and models of care that promote spiritual and emotional well‑being.
- Guide research initiatives related to spiritual well‑being and translate findings into best practices.
- Oversee budgets, staffing models, and resource allocation for spiritual care initiatives.
- Evaluate and intervene with local managers to ensure effective strategy implementation.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Spiritual Care and ACPE educators to design and update a system‑wide strategic plan for CPE and workplace spirituality programs.
- Maintain a working knowledge of applicable laws, the Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, and other policies.

- Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) via APC, CASC, NACC, or NAJC, with a Master of Divinity (MDiv) or equivalent, and 4 units (1600 hours) of ACPE‑accredited education. Additional ethics training required.
- Master’s degree in healthcare/business administration preferred;
