BriefPosition Overview
Function in concert with student-athletes, coaches and support staff to maintain the health and well-being of student-athletes, enabling them to participate in their respective athletic events. The Assistant Athletic Trainer must evaluate medical and injury situations and devise the proper preventative and rehabilitative course of treatment to return the athlete to a healthy, competitive level.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for assigned teams.
- Assist the Director of Sports Medicine in establishing, coordinating, supervising, and monitoring athletic training services to student-athletes.
- Maintain timely and accurate medical records and documentation.
- Coordinate care with team physicians and other medical providers.
- Attend daily practices to assist with athletic training for the athletes.
- Attend and work at home/away games as the designated Athletic Trainer.
- Travel with assigned teams and provide on-site coverage for practices and competitions.
- Assist with supervision and mentorship of athletic training students.
- Collaborate with coaches, strength & conditioning staff, and athletic administration on student-athlete healthcare and safety.
- In consultation with the Director of Sports Medicine and in cooperation with other Assistant Athletic Trainers, operate within the athletic training operational budget.
- Assist the Director of Sports Medicine in the routine operation of a designated athletic training facility.
- Advise athletes of methods designed to maximize injury prevention.
- Maintain current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
- Comply with all Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, Montana State University, Big Sky Conference, NCAA and State Practice Act rules and regulations.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine and/or the Director of Athletics.
1. CAATE
-approved athletic training degree or equivalent master’s degree program.
2. NATA - BOC certification.
3. CPR / AED certification.
4. Eligible for Montana state licensure (or current licensure).
5. At least one year of experience in a collegiate or professional sports setting.
1. Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field.
2. Experience working with Division I football.
3. Proficiency with electronic medical records systems (e.g., Sports Ware, Healthy Roster).
4. Strong communication and organizational skills.
5. Working knowledge of NCAA drug policy, testing regulations and supplements.
6. Experience administering health insurance claims.
The successful candidate will be willing to work with any and all sports assigned.
