Job SummaryTranscribes documentation of patient care, communication, and services as dictated by providers.
Job Responsibilities and RequirementsPrimary Responsibilities
- Interprets and converts dictation by health care professionals into printed text. Applies knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and English language rules to the transcription and proofreading of medical dictation. Recognizes, interprets and evaluates inconsistencies, discrepancies and inaccuracies in medical dictation and appropriately edit, revise and/or clarify without altering meaning of dictation or changing dictator's style.
- Demonstrate proficiency in use of computerized dictation and transcription software and electronic health record software.
- Transcribes recorded reports according to established standards and format, including reports of history and physical examinations, consultations, discharge summaries, operative procedures and other miscellaneous reports as required.
- Demonstrates understanding of confidentiality and medicolegal implications and responsibility related to transcription of reports.
- Keeps accurate records of all dictation received and transcription performed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience

Physical Requirements
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Rare climbing.
