Reports to: Clinic Team Lead About the Role

Heartland Mental Health is looking for a warm, grounded, and committed pre-licensed therapist pursuing LPC licensure in Colorado. This is a unique opportunity to join a values driven team as a part-time contractor, providing therapy services to adult clients in a small, community-based setting—while receiving high-quality, no-cost clinical supervision hours toward licensure. This role is ideal for someone excited to build clinical skills in a non-corporate environment, serve adults navigating complex mental health needs, and grow as part of a tight-knit, peer-centered team.

About Heartland

We’re a small but mighty community mental health center serving adults in the Capitol Hill area of Denver. Our clinic and drop-in center use trauma-informed and recovery-oriented practices to support members experiencing severe and persistent mental illness. At Heartland, we value authenticity, empowerment, community, and care—not just in how we serve clients, but in how we support each other.

What You’ll Do – Direct Clinical Services
  • Provide clinical screenings, intake assessments, diagnoses, and individual therapy for adults with severe and persistent mental illness using evidence-based approaches. Providing case management services will be determined.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients, grounded in their goals and strengths.
  • Carry a caseload of 5-15 depending on your availability and success of collaborative member recruitment efforts
  • Document sessions in a timely and ethical manner using our EHR system (Tebra)
  • Participate in clinic team consultations and team meetings as required.
  • Coordinate care with our in-house Nurse Practitioner, clinic team lead, and drop-in center staff
  • Engage in supervision toward LPC licensure with our Clinic Team Lead (licensed LPC, will be scheduled Tues-Fri, 9am-7pm, can be in-person or virtual).
  • Participate in billing administrative tasks as required
What You Bring to the Role – Must-Haves
  • Master’s degree in counseling from an accredited program
  • Currently registered with DORA in Colorado as a candidate for LPC licensure
  • Able to commit to weekly supervision and client care for a minimum of 6 months
  • Values-aligned with Heartland’s mission and culture: trauma-informed, client centered, equity-rooted
  • Skilled in holding therapeutic space for clients navigating complex trauma, systems of oppression, and severe mental illness
  • Comfortable managing a flexible, contractor-based schedule with personal accountability for documentation and care
Nice-to-Haves (But Not Deal breakers)
  • Experience using Tebra or other EHR systems
  • Familiarity with Medicaid billing (not required – we’ll train you)
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English
  • Prior experience working in community mental health, harm reduction, or with uninsured/underinsured clients
  • Interest in group facilitation or co-leading community-based programming
What You’ll Get
  • Competitive hourly rate based on experience
  • Clinical supervision hours toward LPC licensure (at no cost to you)
  • Opportunities to grow within Heartland’s team as roles evolve
  • Autonomy, flexibility, and a supportive community of peers
  • Meaningful work with people who care deeply about doing it well
