Responsibilities
  • Conduct concurrent and retrospective reviews of inpatient medical records to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Collaborate with inpatient care providers to maintain compliant and consistent clinical documentation
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in clinical documentation related to physician and hospital outcomes
  • Review records and interpret clinical data to reflect the true Severity of Illness (SOI) and Risk of Mortality (ROM)
  • Work flexible schedules to accommodate provider rounding and medical staff presentations
Qualifications
  • Education:

    RN, BSN, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CIC, CCDS, or CDIP
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience in acute care inpatient nursing, inpatient coding, or Health Information Management (HIM)
  • Strong critical thinking skills and excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in computer programs such as Excel and Word, with data entry experience
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education:

    RN, CCS, CPC, RHIA, RHIT, or a combination thereof
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in nursing, inpatient coding, or another HIM role in an acute hospital setting
  • Knowledge of diagnosis-related groups (DRG) and prospective payment systems
  • Experience in utilization review or case management
  • Certification as a CCDS (Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist) or CDIP (Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner)
