Position: AD, Access & Reimbursement, Oncology – Central Plains - Remote

Role Summary

The Associate Director, Access & Reimbursement, Oncology – Central Plains is a remote & field-based role covering Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The role requires residing within the territory (or within 60 miles of the territory border) and involves educating defined accounts on access and reimbursement topics to support product strategy. The ADAR serves as the patient access and reimbursement lead in B2B conversations with account executives, driving pull-through of access and reimbursement strategy and coordinating cross-functionally within NPC.

Responsibilities
  • Interact with large, complex accounts to support patient access within their aligned therapeutic area products, providing face-to-face education to providers and staff to integrate products into office workflows.
  • Address customer questions related to NPC policies on ordering, payment, inventory, and returns in offices.
  • Collaborate with executives, providers, administrators, billing and coding staff, claims departments, and revenue cycle managers to support patient access.
  • Analyze problems and provide solutions related to patient reimbursement, including third-party payer issues, and identify trends to support patient access.
  • Support pull-through on local coverage decisions and proactively communicate policy changes that affect other departments.
  • Inform customers about NVS-sponsored patient support programs (e.g., Co-pay) to enable therapy initiation and continuation.
  • Maintain expertise in regional/local access landscape and act as reimbursement expert for aligned products as needed.
  • Interface with Patient Support Center and Access & Reimbursement Managers on case management, tracking, resolution, and staff education.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally within NPC to share insights on customer needs and barriers related to access and reimbursement.
  • Understand NPC policies and handle PII per HIPAA and internal guidelines with integrity.
  • Identify and report adverse events via established Novartis systems.
Buy and Bill Specific
  • Assess access in the geography and develop a Plan of Action (POA); communicate POA to relevant personnel.
  • Educate HCPs on acquisition pathways, buy-and-bill end-to-end processes, workflows, and facility pull-through in complex accounts (centralized/decentralized acquisition, white/clear/brown bagging, alternate site of care).
  • Educate stakeholders on logistics related to ordering, payment, inventory, and returns/replacements.
  • Analyze reimbursement issues and act as the designated reimbursement expert for offices and field teams.
  • Engage non-prescribers (pharmacy, system leadership, financial counselors, office administrators, revenue cycle managers) regarding Novartis medicines.
Qualifications
  • Required:

    Education — Bachelor’s Degree;
    Business and/or biological science preferred; advanced degree preferred.
  • Required:

    5+ years in pharmaceuticals/biotech focusing on Patient Services, Market Access, Sales, and/or account management; 2+ years in a Patient Services practice support role for a specialty product.
  • Required:

    Experience with highly complex practices/health systems to establish access and acquisition pathways.
  • Required:

    Strategic account management experience with a proactive approach to anticipated access hurdles.
  • Required:

    Deep expertise in integrating manufacturer-sponsored patient support programs; experience with specialty products via Specialty Pharmacy networks.
  • Required:

    Knowledge of reimbursement pathways (specialty pharmacy, buy-and-bill, retail); strong understanding of Commercial payers, Medicare plans, and state Medicaid.
  • Required:

    Must live within the assigned territory; ability to travel at least 50% of the time depending on geography/territory.
  • Required:

    Driving is an essential function; must have a fully valid and unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Required:

    Compliance with driving-related accommodations if applicable; ability to travel and cover geography.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience leading and delivering presentations to C-level account executives.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration with Field Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Public Affairs, State & Government Affairs, Trade, Specialty Pharmacy Account Management, and third-party affiliates.
  • Therapeutic area practice dynamics and common reimbursement/program support needs mastery.
  • Excellent customer focus, collaboration, business acumen, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Field-based, with significant use of a company-provided vehicle and good driving record.
  • Ability to manage field expenses and provide timely expense reporting.
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree preferred.
