Health Services Specialist 2 (HSC2) / Licensing Specialist
These are hybrid, full-time, and permanent positions.
The WMC is dedicated to patient safety and upholding the integrity of the medical profession through licensing, discipline, rule making, and education.
We’re looking for two Licensing Specialists (HSC
2):
- A Licensing Specialist focused on application intake, review, and licensing approvals, and assists with license renewals. It guides applicants through Washington and Interstate Medical Licensing Compact requirements, providing clear, accurate information. Acting as a technical consultant in the Medical Commission’s call center, the role requires strong knowledge of Commission policies and processes and the ability to communicate them effectively to applicants.
- A Compact Licensing Specialist will do much of the same work; however, will mainly focus on guiding applicants through the Physician Assistant Compact (2024) and Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC), and to help streamline medical licensing for physicians and physician assistants. These agreements allow eligible providers to obtain licenses more efficiently across multiple states.
Our ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of licensing regulations, sharp attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to assist applicants and uphold Compact requirements.
In this role, you will:
- Guide applicants through the Compact licensing process
- Review and approve licensing applications for compliance
- Provide technical expertise and real-time support in the WMC call center
- Ensure accuracy in licensing information to maintain compliance and prevent legal risks
The work environment is self-motivated and fast-paced, requiring the ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize deadlines effectively. Success is driven by established performance measures, with a strong emphasis on quality and metrics evaluation. The role involves frequent interaction with high-level professionals, requiring excellent communication skills. Team members must be adaptable, able to handle tight timelines, and manage workloads efficiently to meet the needs of both the unit and customers.
Locationand Flexibility
Enjoy the flexibility of our hybrid work environment, where you can balance working from home and collaborating in the office. It is anticipated that you’ll be expected at the DOH facility located in Tumwater WA, for work activities 1-2 weekly, depending on workload.

Option 1: Two (2) or more years of experience consulting or managing licensing physicians, physician assistants, or anesthesiologist assistants for a medical regulatory agency.
OR
Option 2: Four (4) or more years of experience consulting or managing licensing in a healthcare credentialing in a hospital, insurance agency, or healthcare administration setting.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience- Experience will include practical skills in Adobe PDF and MS Word for document creation and formatting, MS Excel for spreadsheet tasks, and company-specific database management, and Microsoft Outlook or similar email systems for electronic correspondence and scheduling.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in a fast-paced production environment requiring tight timelines, fluent understanding of processes, and reprioritizing workload to meet unit and customer needs.
- One (1) or more years of experience contributing to the development of processes and procedures related to health professional licensing or credentialing.
