Surgical Certified Procedural Coding Specialist

• Assess health record documentation to ensure it supports all diagnoses and procedures for coding
• Apply knowledge of anatomy, clinical disease processes, and terminology to accurately assign codes
• Utilize knowledge of disease processes and surgical procedures to classify non-indexed medical terms
• Implement Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS) definitions for principal diagnosis and procedures
• Ensure compliance with ICD-10 and CPT coding classification systems to assist in submitting clean claims

• High School Diploma or GED
• Understanding of CPT and ICD-10 coding systems
• Certification as CCA, CCS, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA
• Minimum of two (2) years of coding experience
• Must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management
• Preferred certification as RHIA or RHIT
