Position: Health Start Mental Health Therapist

Overview

Health Start Mental Health Therapist at Minnesota Community Care.

Summary:

As our School-Based Mental Health Therapist, you'll help students dealing with a range of emotional and behavioral challenges. Your mission is to provide counseling and support to help our students soar as part of a multidisciplinary clinic team. You will work alongside other clinic staff who provide medical care, nutritional counseling and health education to the students of SPPS. You'll be an integral part of our school community, working closely with educators and parents.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group therapy to students, supporting emotional growth and resilience.
  • Create and implement interventions and programs that promote mental wellness throughout the school.
  • Collaborate with clinic staff, teachers, school support staff and parents to create a holistic approach to student success.
  • Identify early signs of mental health issues through active listening and provide timely interventions.
  • Assess mental health emergencies and engage in crisis intervention as needed.
Qualifications / Key Competencies
  • Able to diagnose mental health diagnoses using the DSM-5
  • Able to create and follow a treatment plan based on DSM-5 diagnoses

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Does not supervise other staff.
  • May provide work direction to students/volunteers.
Work Environment

Primary environment is clinical office and home office. Regular walking required. May come into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This role is based on a 22 bi-weekly pay periods with summers off. You may pick up hours in the summer but not guaranteed.

Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds.
Travel Requirements

Must have the ability to travel between MCC SBC sites in the St. Paul/Minneapolis metro area.
