- Conduct concurrent and retrospective reviews of inpatient and outpatient medical records to evaluate clinical documentation quality
- Facilitate and obtain appropriate physician documentation for clinical conditions and procedures
- Monitor targeted medical records within specified time frames to ensure compliance with documentation standards
Collaborate with inpatient coding staff to ensure accuracy of diagnostic and procedural data - Assist in the ongoing evaluation of clinical documentation and implement improvement initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Medicine, Health Information Management, or a related field
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible inpatient clinical experience
- 0-2 years of CDI related work experience
- Knowledge of CMS coding guidelines and methodologies, including ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding
- Ability to analyze problems and understand the regulatory impact of documentation decisions
- Experience in ICU/ED and Academic Medical Centers
- Background in case management, utilization review, or direct provider interaction
- Familiarity with coding and documentation software or electronic health record systems
